Many companies are seeing value in social media tools like YouTube, webinars, and Twitter, but in today’s climate only the initiatives with the highest ROI will survive. A recent MAPI article summarizes the results of a Marketing Council survey on how B2B marketing executives are using (or not using) social media.

Members offered several tips for peers just starting to use social media, including:
• Develop a social media policy;
• Have buy-in from legal and IT;
• Have a strategy with quick wins mapped out;
• Do not try to convince a skeptical management that Twitter should be your toe in the water;
• Start small with the most popular tools;
• Do not undermine your credibility with PR-ese;
• Accept that there will be discussions that you cannot control.
